How Do I Join as a Beginner?

Introductory Course

What would I learn at the course?

This introductory course is held over 5 sessions over 4 consecutive weeks, designed to introduce the basics of Kyudo to anyone who is interested – no experience required!

Every person practices Kyudo for different reasons - some for sport, some for health, some for the spirituality to name a few. As mentioned in our FAQ, whilst some practitioners enjoy exploring a spiritual aspect to the martial art, it is not a requirement nor is it expected of you. However, Kyudo is more than just shooting with a bow and arrow, which will be explored over the duration of the introductory course.

We understand that some curious minds would like to learn more about Kyudo first and give it a try before deciding whether or not it is for you. For this reason, this introductory course over 1 online session and 4 in-person sessions are designed for you to 'come-and-try' Kyudo, where you will be taken through areas such as the basic movements, fundamental postures, rituals and the eight stages of shooting. You will be able to experience shooting an arrow, though not at full draw due to safety reasons, by the end of the first session.

If you would like to continue on your Kyudo journey with us, you must be present for all sessions to complete the course.

Please noted that:

  • Minimum age 18.

  • Only 18 places are available.

  • Once a session is attended, the course fee is not refundable.

OKM is a small not-for-profit incorporated association run entirely by volunteer members, who also engage in full time employment elsewhere. Spaces in the introduction courses are limited due to the logistical constraints of physical space, equipment, and instructors. As such, we also do not have the capacity to offer private introductory courses or additional courses at this time.

To register to our introductory course:

  1. Sign up to our waitlist following the Events link here.

  2. Select the course session you are interested in and submit the form. If you are interested in multiple sessions, please submit one form for each session.

  3. You will be notified by email one month in advance of the session start dates when the registration to the course is open.

  4. Registration is on a first come first serve basis and only booked once paid for.

  5. Once the course session is full, a registration closing email will be sent out with a waitlist link to re-register onto the waitlist should you like to wait for a cancellation, or sign up to another session's waitlist for the next registration opening.

Important notes:

  • Signing up to the waitlist does not mean that you have registered to the course. If you have not signed up to the waitlist, you will not receive the link to the course registration.

  • Once the registration closing email have been sent (and you have not signed up to any other waitlist sessions), you will not be contacted again. If you would like to wait for a cancellation or sign up to the waitlist of another session, please ensure that you re-register yourself to the waitlist as per the instructions in the closing email.

  • Due to the popularity, we recommend checking your emails regularly one month before session start dates so as to not miss out, as the course is known to be sold out within the first few hours of registration opening.

What next?

Once you've completed all sessions of the introductory course and you've decided you'd like to continue on your Kyudo journey, you can join us as a full member!

Once you join as a full member, you and your fellow introductory course cohort will continue to be guided by the instructors together to fine-tune your foundational knowledge and further practice the basics on Sunday sessions.
